CLL Spring 2020 Season is Cancelled

Hello CLL Families.
We are disappointed it has come to this, but after holding out as long as we could we are officially cancelling the remainder of the 2020 CLL Spring Season.  The city and county are still not able to tell us when they'll make a decision about youth sports, much less a particular date when we will be able to get back on the fields. Please know the CLL Board of Directors did not come to this decision lightly.  We discussed numerous different options on how to make an abbreviated season work but in respect to player health, safety and summer timelines we are calling it.

We held out this long because we know that from a physical and mental health perspective, it is so important for the kids in our community to get outside and have fun with their friends.  With that in mind we are working on possibly hosting summertime "Sandlot Saturdays" which will be a pick-up game style format, along with preparing for the 2020 Fall Ball Season.  If we are able to hold Sandlot Saturday events based on county and local health guidelines, they will be free to all 2020 Spring registered players.  More details on Sandlot Saturdays to come as the city and county restrictions continue to lift.

While we could not complete the majority of our season, we already incurred the majority of our seasonal expenses, which included uniforms, baseballs, field supplies, umpire fees, and other costs.  That is why our registration forms confirm no refunds are given after the draft each spring. However, this is an unprecedented situation so the CLL Board has decided to provide options regarding unused Spring 2020 registration funds.  The portion of registration fees not expended by CLL is $55 per player league ages 8 to 15 and $20 per player ages 4 to 7.  To describe how these unused funds can be distributed, we’d like to offer your family a choice:
  1. Donate that amount to the league
  2. Receive a coupon code for credit against future registration fees, which will expire at close of spring 2021 spring registration.
  3. Receive a check for each registrant, mailed to the address on the registration
You can designate your choice by filling out the online form HERE. Note that we can only receive requests using the email address listed on the registration (either primary or additional parent/guardian) to ensure that we’re communicating with the right person.  Also note that refunds are only available to those who have paid their registration fees in full.   If we do not hear from you by June 15, we will take that to mean you’d like to donate your family's unused registration fees to the league. Additionally, please contact your team parent directly for return of any collected but unused team funds (e.g., snack tickets, team parties, etc.) If you ordered a yearbook, your team parent will get information about their distribution as well.
As a Board we ask those capable of donating to please consider it. Although CLL did not have certain expenses because of the pandemic and cessation of play, it lost multiple fundraising opportunities that were otherwise available if there had been a season, including the annual Quakes night, our inaugural golf tournament, apparel sales, and snack bar revenue.  Further, CLL has been accruing funds to enable field renovations in the immediate future. Any funds donated will help CLL maintain operations through Sandlot games and Fall Ball while those field renovation opportunities and improvements are pursued.

For those of you that have keys and/or equipment issued by the league, we are having a collection event at College Park on Saturday, June 13, 2020 between 4pm and 7pm. The event will be split by division as follows.

T-Ball and Farm Divisions: 4-5 PM
JV and Minors Divisions: 5-6 PM
Majors and Juniors Divisions: 6-7 PM

CLL Board Members will be set up near the Field 1 parking lot. Please return your CLL keys and equipment to avoid losing your deposit. (Managers, keep your used practice balls and bucket.)  Upon return of keys and/or equipment, your deposit check will be returned to you or destroyed.

We are so sad to give this news but are hopeful that baseball will return better than ever. We will keep everyone updated as to any progress toward getting back on the field and hope you and your family are staying healthy.
